RTM 1800 Series Torquemeters

RTM_1800_Series

Himmelstein RTM 1800 Series shaft style reaction torque transducers are available in two different models.  The 1810 models are available in ranges from 10 ozf-in to 160 ozf-in, while the 1850A models cover the range from 20,000 lbf-in to 300,000 lbf-in.

Reaction torque measurements permit accurate determination of static and dynamic torque with a stationary or non-rotating transducer.  They are based on Newton’s third law of angular motion, which states, “when a body exerts a torque upon another body, the second exerts an equal torque upon the first in the opposite direction and about the same axis of rotation.”

Referring to the illustration below, the reaction torque path must be through the torquemeter, so the torquemeter can accurately measure the applied torque.

RTM 1800 Drawing

All Himmelstein Reaction Torquemeters use temperature compensated full foil gage torque bridge sensors that provide inherent cancellation of bending and thrust signals.  They are constructed of 15-5 PH precipitation hardened stainless steel with exceptional fatigue properties.  Transducers subjected to full scale reversals have essentially infinite fatigue life.
